(1) Use Twitter to drive people to your website or blog
This is probably the number one benefit of Twitter actually.
It is extraordinary for driving organic traffic to your website or blog posts.
It can also be used to promote your You Tube videos or your podcast series.
It’s an amazing resource so it’s well worth taking the time to learn it’s secrets.
(2) The “Twitter3030” Method
This is one of my favourite techniques for gaining targeted followers on Twitter and developing quality relationships.
Follow 30 People Per Day For 30 Days
Rinse & Repeat
Follow people that you find inspiring and most importantly follow their followers.
Chances are if you find them inspiring, and you’re tweeting similar things, they will follow you too.
I’ve had robust success with this strategy, so try this one for yourself and let me know how you go.
(3) Follow People First
This one really picks up where the last idea left off.
Following first is a terrific way to take the initiative and really helps you to find great people to connect with.
Many of them will follow you back and you will have a solid foundation to base further conversations on.
(4) Thank People Often
This one can not be overstated.
Don’t take anything that people have done for you for granted.
A simple thank you makes all the difference.
(5) Tweet Daily
This one may seem challenging at first but you will soon get into the swing of it.
Tweeting regularly is one of the best ways to build and maintain a loyal following.
(6) Be a Resource, Not a Salesperson
Twitter really is the information network and people just love getting the latest news about what is going on.
That being said, don’t only share information about your business.
Of course, some of your tweets should be about what you are doing but build a community around your regular tweets and share other people’s work as well.
Unfortunately, many people are really tarnishing their brand and annoying their followers by trying to sell their products before building any trust or authority.
Your potential clients don’t want to commit to buying your products or services right away.
They want to know that you are confident and competent before even considering buying from you.
They want to know that you are a nice person and by being a resource you give your clients a chance to get to know you better, as well as building that much needed trust.
(7) Write a Strong Bio
With over 300 million monthly active users on Twitter now it’s really hard to “STAND OUT”
When someone does come across your page your bio must include the key information that you want them to know about you.
There are so many business profiles that say nothing at all about their business or brand.
The people who visit your profile must understand who you are.
In addition, you must have a link to your website or a landing page if you have one.
If you do have one, please make sure it’s working properly and is totally clickable on multiple devices.
Ultimately, a mobile optimises page is best if you can manage that.
(8) Add a photo or company graphic
Great images absolutely increase brand awareness.
If you don’t feel comfortable with your headshot you can use your business logo.
There are a lot of statistic to indicate that a good quality photo, that is very welcoming, you will get more followers and more engagement.
(9) Remember the 80/20 rule
Share 80% content from others and only 20% of your own (4/1)
Personally, I try to do 10/1 but that is a little harder to manage
You can flip this idea if you have a daily blog schedule or are very prolific with your content
If you do write articles and share them on social media, share your knowledge and aim to be useful. and this will bring you better results than promoting what you sell.
This will bring you far better results in the long run than constantly promoting only what you have to sell.
(10) Share, Share, Share
Gary Vaynerchuk says it so well
“Give, Give, Give, Then Ask”
(11) Track Your Performance
You don’t know if your business is successful unless you check the results and the same rule applies on Social Media.
If you are on Twitter for business, you should check on Twitter Analytics how many tweet impressions you have got, how many people viewed your profile, how many times have you been mentioned and how many followers did you get.
Check the monthly stats to see if they are better than the previous month and find out what you can change to be ever better next month.
Twitter Analytics will also show your Top Tweet, Top Media Tweet, Top Mention and Top Follower that month.
Click into an individual Tweet to see specific data for that Tweet and you will be able to see how many times people viewed and engaged with your Tweet, and how they interacted with it.
(12) Have Fun!!
This really is absolutely essential!!
Just go with the flow and make your tweets fun and engaging
That is ultimately the true secret of success.
With Twitter, and with all your marketing in general.
