KEYWORDS FOR MAXIMISING YOUR SEO
Keywords are the EXACT words being used by the searcher to find you and your services. By using these you can almost GUARANTEE yourself increased traffic.
Let’s use the analogy of a “ROADTRIP”
I remember the first time I decided to go on a road trip.
In those days you went to your local AAA office, picked up some maps and even got a consultation with one of the trip specialists.
As you planned out your trip you had 2 options: the fastest route or the scenic route.
Since I was heading home for Passover, I wanted the fastest route to my home state of Ohio.
The advice I was given at the time was to follow I-95 or I-80 (it’s been years since I’ve made this trip!)
The letter “I” indicates what is called “Interstate” and presumably one very very long path can take me from one end of the US to the other.
Since I had not driven on an Interstates, I was told to follow the signs that indicated when I needed to cross over to another highway.
Looking at my map, I decided that I would use the names of the exits (the places you turn off the interstate and connect to another interstate or usually a highway)
So as drove on the highway I saw my last exit before entering into an new state was called Youngstown. So basically all I needed to was drive all the way to Youngstown.
As I began driving, I noticed signs that said 30 miles to Youngstown. As I drove about 5 miles I noticed a rest stop and there were these signs that said 3 miles and exit on the right.
As I neared the exit every 1 mile or so I saw signs advertising the rest stop. Some signs had 3 pictures: a bed to indicate a motel, a gas station indicating I can get a fill up and the
3rd picture was a logo from a fast food restaurant like McDonalds or something like that.
The longer I drove I saw so many variations of these signs.
Some signs showed a certain brand of gasoline, some signs were designated as truck stops and others were stops for food and restrooms only. But the message was still the same.
In addition to these picture signs I also read Youngstown 20 miles away and after about 5 miles I saw signs that said Youngstown is 15 miles and so on.
When I arrived a Youngstown guess what I saw?
“WELCOME TO YOUNGSTOWN” in nice bold letters!
I had arrived, and heck it felt great!
So, why this long and drawn out story? Keywords are like the various signs I saw along the highway, more importantly they are the signs that said 30 miles,20 miles and so on.
My destination was called Youngstown, and the signs kept me driving and the other signs made me aware of any of my potential needs
(such as rest, restroom and or food along the way).
The signs were consistent and yet different.
How does this simply define keywords because the average driver on the information superhighway (as the internet was called) is looking for their destination.
By words and terms they would use to find you. By using those exact words, the ones the searcher is using to find you - you are essentially building those signs for the driver or in realistic terms the internet searcher to follow.
