TIK TOK 101: COMPELLING REASONS TO START USING TIK TOK IN 2020

 

There are many reasons people use one of the newest social media platforms Tik Tok.

If you haven’t heard of it yet, TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video.

Their mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy.

…… and it certainly works for me.

It’s big business already as TikTok has global offices including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul and Tokyo.

I use it for the following reasons:

 

(1)  Personally

(2) Professionally

(3) Purely For Fun

(1) Personally

 

I’d heard of TikTok previously and knew that @GaryVee uses it.

So I thought if it’s good enough for him, it’s damn well good enough for me!

My late Dad, Brian, drummed “Communication” into me as I was growing up.

So that’s exactly what I do via written and spoken words, using articles, posts, interviews, podcasts, presentations, audio and video to name a few.

My social media modalities are Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

And now…enter TikTok.

I see it as another platform to develop my personal brand.

Bear in mind that your personal brand IS part of your professional brand too.

I say that how you do anything is how you do everything.

So personally for me, TikTok is still about me and sharing my journey, my life, my business, my passions, my message.

 

(2) Professionally

 

I am a huge advocate for Healthy Living Inside and Out with a strong focus on mental health, having lost my nephew to suicide, losing his Mum (my sister) to alcoholism and having faced three life-threatening car accidents, with my beloved Gran being killed in one.

Throw in several other life-changing adversities too.

I use TikTok to showcase my #thepixfactor #thecouragepreneur #crazymumma #arbonnemumma lifestyle, sometimes with the product or brand placement creating awareness for mu global online health and wellness business that operates in 6 countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Poland, UK, and USA.

 

(3) Purely For Fun

 

Pretty much in all, I do personally and professionally, I aim to have fun.

I see TikTok as my “after work” and 15 sec “me time” uber-fun activity for ME!

Do I care about vanity metrics?

No, and Yes!

I simply hope I add fun and laughter in everyone’s day who views it, starting with mine and my daughter’s day!!

 

(4) Making Connections 

 

Here’s another compelling reason to use Tik Tok in 2020.

I am all about making connections locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

One absolute serendipitous bonus is that through using TikTok, I have connected with an absolute Rockstar in the Twittersphere, the awesome video marketing and Twitter guru, Keith Keller.

Who would have thought that one 50+ single, slightly crazy Mumma Bear would be asked to write an article about her TikTok experience (albeit very brief so far) who simply hopped on TikTok purely for fun…her own!

OK, so Keith and I did initially connect on Linkedin.

However, it shows the power of living your best, authentic life, the power of having fun and the power of social media showcasing how you can reach out with some pretty awesome connections and create fab opportunities.

Ironically, after many texts and some lengthy phone conversations, Keith and I, have discovered that I did Year 10 Work Experience in 1981 (yes…all those years ago!!) at a Pre School right opposite his home in Albury, NSW.

Talk about Zero degrees of separation!!

To me, I take home several lessons from all of this.

 

  • It this shows the absolute power of TikTok, a funky music App I downloaded for me to have fun.
  • It shows that being your crazy, authentic self attracts people.
  • It shows the power of making connections and taking things offline.
  • It shows the power of the follow up.

 

So here I am, sharing my Tik Tok lessons on Linkedin after connecting with a Twitter legend!

Go figure!!

I know I have made a new connection both personally and professionally whilst having a whole lotta fun along the way.

And oh yeah, did I say he is pretty rad at twitter?

He is. I’m not.

So I’ll leave that space to Keith!!
