(@KeithKeller) January 24, 2018   Content Creation Versus Content Curation (Video)        The whole world is buzzing about Content Marketing - producing great new content to keep you and your brand visible and “top of mind”. For anyone who has a major competitor that spends thousands of dollars creating gorgeous new content every couple of hours, you’ll understand just how impossible content marketing can seem. We have a client with a specialist hair salon. She is a small business competing against a very large prestigious salon in an exclusive suburb that employs a dozen hairdressers. Not only does her rival have a salon in Melbourne, they also have salons in other capital cities too. Online her competitor is the industry leader. For our client, her competitor out publishes her in Content Marketing every time in every channel. So instead of focusing on content creation to keep pace with her competitor, we’ve begun to aggregate and curate other people’s content. Injecting that into her Twitter stream. Watching for content already in circulation that will keep her audience engaged, and that best fits her business goals.   The value of aggregating & curating content   (1) You are perceived to be relevant and up-to-date in all areas of your industry When it takes you a long time to create your own content, you’ll always be out of...

“ONCE UPON A TIME” WHY STORYTELLING IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO MARKETERS

“ONCE UPON A TIME” WHY STORYTELLING IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO MARKETERS

“ONCE UPON A TIME” WHY STORYTELLING IS VITALLY IMPORTANT TO MARKETERS Guest Blog Post By Fabrice Briatte (Montreal)   FRENCH TRANSLATION ALSO AVAILABLE    Once upon a time, there was a world where people didn’t watch TV any more. There was a world where people used adblockers when they go to the Internet. People wanted brands to talk to them only when they needed it. Marketers couldn’t attract attention by disturbing them anymore. But there was a little fairy full of emotions called ‘Storytelling’ that could help marketers. Here is her story 😉     Micro Moments Are Changing The Rules   The importance of moments   Our life is made up of micro-moments. These micro-moments are changing the relationship between brands and clients. We spend most of these micro-moments through the Internet. According to Google, there are four types of “Micro Moments”     (1) I Want To Know Moments When someone is exploring, but is not in purchase mode.   (2) I Want To Go Moments When someone is considering buying a product at local store.   (3) I Want To Do Moments When someone needs help finishing a task or wants to do something new.   (4) I Want To Buy Moments When someone is ready to buy, and may need help.     All these micro-moments represent chances for brands to engage with the clients. Brands can make this experience great just by giving the right information at the right time.   30,000 Decisions Every Day    Micro-moments, micro-experiences mean micro-decisions. We make more than 30,000 micro-decisions a day. It means we have too much...
A SHORT HISTORY OF LIVESTREAMING

A SHORT HISTORY OF LIVESTREAMING

A SHORT HISTORY OF LIVESTREAMING Guest blogger Dave Gonzales explains the major milestones that have allowed livestreaming to evolve to where it is today and how this can be an extremely useful marketing strategy for your brand or business.   So What Is Livestreaming Anyway?     Streaming is short for data stream, breaking up parts of a data file versus downloading an entire file at once as one big segment.  Prior to that the file would have to completely downloaded completely before it could be viewed or listened to.  The technology developed in the late 20th century made it popular and assessable for many more people to enjoy.     How & Why Did It Evolve?      There are some essential dates leading up to what we now think of as livestreaming, so let’s examine those first   1876 - Alexander Graham Bell invents the telephone 1922 - The concept of streaming is invented & patented by George Squier as Musak 1969 - Apollo 11 lands on the Moon 1971 - First Intel commercial microprocessor developed 1975 - Microsoft Founded 1976 - Apple, Inc. Founded 1988 - Fiberoptic lines start to be laid across the existing telecommunications network 1991 - World Wide Web comes out as an internet service 1993 - First Livestreamed video 1995 - RealPlayer streaming media software Founded, Amazon.com Founded 1997 - James Cameron’s “Titanic”, Amazon.com goes public 2007 - Release of iPhone  2015 - Launch of Periscope What’s Next ((??))     Necessity Is The Mother Of Invention     How do you share a live event without prerecording it and having users...
HOW TO SHARE YOUR STORY ON A LIMITED BUDGET

HOW TO SHARE YOUR STORY ON A LIMITED BUDGET

Recently I was invited to speak at the “FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA” conference here in Melbourne which was a lot of fun. I met so many great people on the day and also had the chance to find out about the latest Social Media strategies. How cool is that?   THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA (2017)   I also had the great fortune to meet Miri Rodriguez from Microsoft and we chatted here about importance of storytelling for your business or startup. …. and how you can now create compelling videos on your smartphone or tablet. There are some compelling ideas here and I also talk about how I record and edit my videos as part of the “MAGIC MELBOURNIANS” video series.   ?   Keith Keller: So we’ve talked about storytelling as a powerful mechanism, but one of the big stories in the room today is budget Miri Rodriguez: Yeah Keith Keller: Can you explain a little bit about how people can enter the game, Miri Rodriguez: Yes Keith Keller: Without having to spend hundreds of thousands, or even hundreds of Dollars. I’ve got a Tablet, a Samsung Tablet, $50 stand, couple of hundred Dollars and we’re here. Miri Rodriguez: That’s it, and it’s as good as it can get. Honestly I love what you’re doing, and I love how you’re doing it, and showcasing it right now with this. At Microsoft, of course we have a bigger budget than a lot of people in this room have, and in reality, a lot of people come into these conferences and go: “Yeah great Microsoft, because you have the...
HOW TO GET CLIENTS TO COME TO YOU: TWITTER HONEYPOT STRATEGY

HOW TO GET CLIENTS TO COME TO YOU: TWITTER HONEYPOT STRATEGY

HOW TO GET CLIENTS TO COME TO YOU  The Twitter Honeypot Strategy By Indra Chandon      Lots of marketers will tell you to go where you find your audience in large numbers and market to them there. Sometimes this could mean that you can’t afford to advertise so there are other ways to get in front of that audience. Here is a great example: We have a client that has a Property Investment business. They help people invest in properties Doing everything from making sure they can afford to get started, through to buying a great property and renting it out. For this client the best place for them to find lots of people interested in investing in property is where investment properties sell. The challenge was that advertising on the relevant websites would cost the client thousands of dollars per state. Our client has offices in 4 states, so this sort of advertising is outside his budget right now, while he’s growing his business. So instead of him going where the audience is, we’ve begun building an audience for him on Twitter.   Attracting the audience to him “like bees to a honeypot”   The value of drawing the audience to you:    (1) You will always own the audience once you’ve built it up   With advertising, your audience vanishes as soon as you stop paying for your ads to run.   (2) Your offers and CTAs are not competing against your competitors   With advertising your ad could appear right next to a rivals ad and you might not have the choice, or even find out,...
WHY SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT IS THE DOORWAY TO SUCCESS

WHY SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT IS THE DOORWAY TO SUCCESS

WHY SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT IS THE DOORWAY TO SUCCESS Guest blogger Simon Zaku examines Social Media engagement in detail here and explains how you can improve your success rate with a few simple techniques.     I have a quick question for you… Have you ever thought about whether you should focus your strengths on getting more traffic or getting more engagements? I bet every brand on Twitter (or social media in general) has in one way or the other thought about that. Maybe you’ve even seen or come across a few articles on this idea, just like this one.  It’s an important question to ask because 24% of all companies surveyed don’t have a social media strategy. Anyway, the short answer to this little debate is:   Engagement Wins Everytime!!   So, in this post I’m going to prove to you why your brand could really benefit by focusing on engagement. …. and why that is so much better than simply counting the number of people that come to your website or blog.   So Why Should You Focus On Engagement?    It sure feels like most brands are just counting traffic as a yardstick for measuring the success of their lead generation efforts. However, in reality, the reverse is actually the case. In a recent research, Ascend2 asked 294 marketing, sales and business professionals worldwide what their most important social media marketing strategy objectives were. ‘Increasing audience engagement’ emerged first with 64% of the votes. Therefore, with so many brands wanting to increase audience engagement, you might be forgiven for asking the following questions   (Q) Why...
GETTING STARTED WITH LIVE VIDEO

GETTING STARTED WITH LIVE VIDEO

GETTING STARTED WITH LIVE VIDEO Guest Blog Post By Lesley Fischer     If you’re on social media, chances are pretty great that you’ve seen a friend or celebrity sharing a video of themselves live. Live video on social media is changing the way we interact with our audience, each other, and the world. Facebook is just one recent medium that has fully embraced live video along with YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter (through Periscope). Live video gives you the ability to interact face to face with your customers in real time. Just as you would in a store. As we’ve seen in recent catastrophic events, all four of these platforms have utilized social media and live video to communicate, to connect, and to aid in rescues. Adding live video to your social media reportage can only enhance your social presence. It’s wildly interactive, even if it’s an older video that was once live, and is now just on your news feed. The biggest benefit of live video however is “immediacy” The truly interactive experience that you get when participating in a live video is only available during the live video. Participation is the key element when producing a live video, no matter what platform you’re using. While you’re hosting a live stream your audience  has the ability to make comments, ask questions, and chime in about what you’re speaking about. ….. and this in turn influences the content and the video as it iss being created. You just can’t get more interactive than that!! No other social media format delivers these benefits, which is why Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and...
