HASHTAGS (#) The Magical Ingredient

HASHTAGS (#) The Magical Ingredient

HASHTAGS (#) The Magical Ingredient On Twitter When celebrities such as Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon start talking about something, you know it’s big. The duo made a very cool video about Twitter hashtags that was so successful they decided to make a sequel. So when it comes to Twitter marketing tactics, hashtags really are that magic ingredient that makes Twitter what it is. It’s that element that has the power to change everything for you. In a nutshell, hashtags make words live and breathe in “THE TWITTERVERSE”  There are 3 main ways you can use hashtags and I explain them in great detail in the podcast above:   (1) POWER WORDS   (2) CREATE YOUR OWN HASHTAG   (3) TRENDING TOPICS   In a world where there are “9,000 Tweets Every Second” on Twitter now and hashtags are a fantastic marketing tool to help you “STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD”  Use it as a tool to get people to find you and from there, to follow you. They allow you to share your information with the people who really want to hear it. While Twitter has an in-built tool that’ll tell you what’s trending at any point in time, have a look at this nifty website if you’re after more detailed information:   www.HASHTAGS.org    You’ll be able to see what’s trending, what’s popular and look at graphs that can help you to decide what words/terms to hashtag. In my tweets, hashtags are the secret sauce, the joiner, the glue that makes Twitter stand out from its competitors. They’re a great way to spruik your next workshop, event, a new book release book and...
HOW TO SAVE TIME BY SCHEDULING YOUR TWEETS IN ADVANCE

HOW TO SAVE TIME BY SCHEDULING YOUR TWEETS IN ADVANCE

SAVE TIME BY SCHEDULING YOUR TWEETS        Tweeting live is always better if you can manage it, but we’re also real human beings and we need to eat, sleep and enjoy downtime with our loved ones because that’s what life is really all about! One of the great things about Twitter marketing is that is really is possible to have a global vision and schedule your tweets to have a presence on Twitter even while you’re sleeping.  Statistics tell me that more than 55% of my followers are based in the US and less than 13% of people are following me here in Australia. AMAZING!! That means that when I’m ready to call it a day, my followers are eating breakfast. I’ll admit that I have tried to stay up until 3am but it’s really quite hard to do consistently. I have 3 favourites when it comes to scheduling my tweets ahead of time:   BUFFER HOOTSUITE GREMLN   Now, I want you to check out each for yourself and decide which one best suits your needs but I like Buffer for one reason: I’m really REALLY hopeless when it comes to admin.  What Buffer does is that it allows you to hop into your account once, set all of the times you want to be tweeting, and then it just works in with whatever’s been programmed in. All you need to do is copy/paste any links you want to tweet out. That means that at this point in time, I’ve got about 6 months’ worth of tweets ready to go. Now, it does cost about $10 per...
HOW TO TWEET YOUR WAY TO GLOBAL SUCCESS

HOW TO TWEET YOUR WAY TO GLOBAL SUCCESS

HOW TO TWEET YOUR WAY TO GLOBAL SUCCESS How Far Did Your Tweets Travel?  The most common question I get these days is: How do I get more followers? Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to generate followers but is not everything. Followers are one thing but solid, good quality connections are another thing entirely. With that in mind, let me introduce you to one of my favourite websites:  www.TweetReach.com This AWESOME site tracks: How many followers you have. How many people are retweeting you? How many followers your connections have. The total number of followers reached. This is what we refer to as “TWEET REACH” Tweet Reach 4 @KeithKeller   I’ve spoken quite a few times now about how one day “3 MILLION PEOPLE” saw my tweets. Pretty cool, but did this happen? Basically, the stars aligned and because I’ve helped a lot of people out in the past, they retweeted me and by the time a few people with thousands of followers did that, I had reached over 3 million people that day. I’ve said many times before that unless someone out there is listening, there’s not much point in being on any social media platform, much less Twitter. One way to gather a loyal list of “listeners” is to retweet others first. At the simple click of a button, you can retweet someone else’s messages and help to spread the word about what they are doing. It’s one of the easiest things you’ll ever do with Twitter. Another thing you can try is using hashtags!! Don’t worry, I go into hashtags in great detail in an...
BUILD YOUR STRONG ONLINE FOUNDATIONS FIRST

BUILD YOUR STRONG ONLINE FOUNDATIONS FIRST

BUILD YOUR STRONG ONLINE FOUNDATIONS FIRST Before You Start Your Twitter Marketing!! (1) Your Website (This is “Home Base”)    (2) Your Blog   (A Place To Tell Your Story)    (3) Your Free “Teaser” (Builds Trust & Momentum)        There’s really is no point being on Twitter if you don’t have a good foundation, let me explain why… Your website is what I call your home base – You own it. It may take years to build and refine but like a house, once it’s built, you can live there forever. If you’ve got all of your content on a particular or on various social media platforms, consider this:   What happens if the site shuts down for some reason?   More realistically, what happens if the admins or owners of that particular site decide your content isn’t fit for public consumption? Remember, they don’t really need a reason to make this move. Make the time and spend the money to get yourself a website that Google recognizes and you own. There’s another key element here too - what I call Google juice. There’s no point in having a website if Google can’t see it. After all, most people just Google their way through life. it’s the top search engine and not having a presence on it is likely to hurt your business dearly. So, once you’ve got your website, what next? Get yourself a blog (running with the house analogy, this is your ‘spare room’). A blog is where you can communicate with your audience and share stories via short stories, articles, podcasts, videos… whatever you...
GETTING STARTED ON TWITTER

GETTING STARTED ON TWITTER

GETTING STARTED ON TWITTER A while back now, I developed a series of podcasts with Annemarie Cross all based around “CRACKING” the Twitter code. Part 1 is all about this idea:   Do you need to promote yourself and your products? Well Twitter may just be your missing link in your current marketing mix. First up, there are so many social media and blogging platforms out there. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google+… who can keep count? Whether you choose to use Twitter or not is completely up to you but please don’t just discount this fantastic platform because ‘you don’t get it.’ What I’ve learnt through the people I’ve mentored though, is that once they start to understand the ins and outs and how Twitter can really benefit them, they see it as a real asset to their business. Ever had a light bulb moment where things just make sense? I’ve witnessed thousands of them when it comes to my clients and Twitter. So, you might be asking: why should I bother with Twitter? “Twitter Is The Buzz Builder” It’s not Facebook, Google+ or any other platform: people check Twitter for news. In many instances, you’ll see news breaking on Twitter before the news… we’re talking from anywhere between a 10 second to 30 time frame. Of course, this means you need to tailor your messages accordingly. I’ve heard many people adopt a ‘one-stop shop’ strategy to all of their social media platforms. In my experience, this doesn’t work. Twitter is not Facebook… people aren’t interested in seeing you eat an ice cream on the beach or your endless...
What Would You Tell Your Younger Self?

What Would You Tell Your Younger Self?

What Would You Tell Your Younger Self? A while ago, my good friend Laura Waage asked me what I’d tell me younger self. In fact, she painted this picture for me: So Keith, it’s 1985. Marty McFly shows up at your door to take you back in time. Knowing what you now know, what piece of advice would you give to your newbie self? I’m bringing this up now because a very special event is heading our way later this year that ties into this notion of advising our future selves: Back To The Future Day (21 October 2015) When Laura first asked me this question, it got me thinking. It’s a hard one to answer. In 1985 I had just moved to Melbourne – I remember sporting a jacket very similar to the one Michael J. Fox had in the original. I looked every bit as much of a coast guard due as Michael did. The shoes, the clothes… I was basically Marty McFly minus the DeLorean. In a nutshell, my piece of advice to myself would be very simple: “Trust yourself. You’re bloody awesome. You will be OK.” The more I thought about this at the time, the more I remembered feeling angry. When I was 18 in the mid ‘80s, I had goals and dreams but I just didn’t follow through with them. I was scared. So much so that I didn’t jump when opportunities presented themselves. And we all know how quickly good opportunities disappear. Instead, I played it safe… Did the sensible thing. Sucked up people’s nasty comments. Anyone who knows me will recognise those...

This may sound counter-intuitive but it is the essence of Social Media marketing.   2.   Write a strong bio   One that will inspire potential clients and joint venture partners to follow you.   3.   Add a photo or company graphic    There is significant evidence to prove that people who do this get more followers and retweets   4.   Remember the 80/20 Rule – It’s not all about you   4 out of 5 tweets should be of value to your followers and not sales related. 1 out of 10 however is a far better ratio if you can manage it.   5.   SHARE – SHARE –SHARE (This is Twitter 101)   Share great articles and interact with your followers … this is the essence of how Twitter works   SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES  www.KeithKeller.com.au (Free eBook)  www.CrackTheTwitterCode.com  (Twitter Strategy Sessions)...
